Then
this is the boat for you!

You
can have all this for less than 18.9% of what she’d cost new!!!
Cobalt
once again just took top honors in the JD Powers consumer survey. Cobalt
has consistently held this honor in the large runabouts category.

Dear Friend,
This
is a terrific opportunity to own a wonderful boat. She brought more fun into our
lives than we ever expected. We priced a similar new Cobalt. It listed for
$55,473. You’ll own her for a fraction of that cost. We hope she brings you as
much fun and excitement as she brought us.
The BUC value for
this boat ranged between $10,900 and $12,400 depending on the overall condition
of the boat. This boats overall condition
warrants the high end of the range and an adder of between 10-15% for the extra
equipment. A boat needing substantial work would be at the low end of
$10,900. This boat is ready to run in the sun. Add yourself, friends, family and
water. That is all you need. She was fully tuned and serviced before
being put on the hard. I have opened her up and tested her. She is ready for
this season in every way. We just took her out and ran a total of 41 miles on
Lake George Saturday June 17. She was flawless. Everything is ready for a
season of fun!
We
bought our Cobalt from a Yacht club down on the lower Hudson near NYC.
Apparently one of their members purchased her new in 1989 and moored her at the
club. The yardman at the club told me she was used a few times that season. For
the next few years they launched the boat and she sat around not being used. At
the end of the season they would pull her out and store her for the winter. The
old owner apparently forgot he even owned the boat because she was not used and
he never paid his yard-bill. After about 4 years the yacht club finally got hold
of him and he decided to donate the boat to the club in lieu of the outstanding
mooring and storage fees.
The yacht
club used the boat from 1994/1995 until 2003 to take their summer sailing
students from the dock to a set of moored sailboats about 100 yards from the
dock. These classes lasted for a total of 10 days each summer. We were really
the first people to seriously use this boat and we only used it for the second
half of the 2004 season. This boat has very low engine hours! You’ll have a
great boat with a fresh engine.
I
bought a trailer for the boat and towed the boat to my home about 250 miles
away. I had the bottom professionally scraped, sanded and a fresh coat of bottom
paint put on her. I was going to moor it in Lake Champlain.
However, it was so easy to tow and launch, we decided to just use the local
launch ramps. That let us load up the boat at home instead of trying to
transfer stuff from the dingy or schlepping stuff to the dock. Bottom line, the
bottom paint should be fine for a season or two if you plan to moor her.

We
Couldn’t Let Her Sit Any Longer
The
reason I’m selling is my wife wanted a boat our two young daughters could take
naps on and one in which we could stay out overnight. So I bought a 30 foot
sailboat. I know, it’s the other end of the spectrum. When the girls are 9 or
10 we will get back in a Cobalt. We did not even get the boat wet last year. I
would love to keep her till the girls get older but it would be a waste of a
fabulous boat, to just sit on the hard any longer.

AQ-271
Volvo Duo-prop Sterndrive –
This is a wonderfully efficient power package. The unit is listed at 285 to 315
horsepower. I’ve never really found out for sure. However you’ll have plenty
of power with lots to spare! The props bite so well you have to be careful to
not jerk the rope out of your skiers’ hands even with a bunch of friends in
the boat. You get the Volvo power, dependability and durability which means
you’ll have plenty of horsepower to do whatever you want, you won’t have to
worry about breaking down, and this engine will last for many years to come. I
figure the only season it saw any use real use was 2004
.
V-8 Volvo AQ-271C Power
Economical
- The boat planes out at 17-18 knots. At this
point you are about at 2600 RPMs. The power-to-weight ratio means she can ride
along at plane just sipping gas. If you have the need for speed she
easily jumps into the low to mid 40’s. Swap the props and I’m sure you could
get the 50+ knot speeds Cobalts are famous for. The current props are
great for popping up skiers and general cruising. The boat has great low-end
torque. And to be honest 45 mph is faster than I ever need to go on the water.

We would run 40-60
miles each day on the weekend and be able to go several weekends without adding
gas. A lot of boats need pretty hard throttle when pulling skiers or tubers. Not
this boat! I believe it is due to
the Volvo Duo-props and generous horsepower. Just pop up on plane, throttle back
and enjoy! With this boat you won’t have to
be worried about killing your wallet to keep her in gas. However if you want to
run punch it and hang on.
Safety
- There were several times I was happy for her speed when a thunderstorm snuck
in over the mountains! Lake Champlain has the Adirondack Mountains to the west
and they can hide storms until they are almost upon you. At 40 mph it doesn’t
take long to be clear of where it’s going to hit and be back in the sunshine.
If you need her to, she’ll fly you to safety. I quickly learned to monitor the
weather using the WX function on the VHF. This made for fewer thrilling escapes!

ICOM - 401 VHF and Apelco 365 Sonar
8’ Beam
– The
wide beam makes for a stable fast boat with a large interior volume. There
is plenty of room for your family and friends. The rear seat (picture)
drops down into a very nice sunning platform perfect for lounging and lazing
the day away in the sunshine.
Now for the best part: The boat is a GREAT value at the buy it now price. How about some extras!
We
also completely went through the outdrive and had new seals, hydraulic
pump/lines and had a new set of Duo-props ($1,200.00) installed. I wanted the
drive unit to be as good as the engine and was concerned because it had sat in
the brackish water of the lower Hudson. Plus we range up to 25 miles south of
where we launch and as much as 30 miles north. With a 2 year old and an infant
on board, dependability was a must. We spent close to $4,000 on all the work
we had done to the drive unit plus the props.
You can be sure the drive is good for many years and will not leave you stranded
or surprise you with unexpected costs.

Full
Teak Swim Platform
This is no tiny plastic
step! It’s like having a sidewalk on the back of the boat. The
full teak platform is wonderful for children swimmers and getting skiers/tubers
set up to play. We added a new the two-step drop-in ladder on the port
side of the platform and extends well into the water.
Getting back aboard couldn’t be easier! Teak swim platforms like
this new cost over $2,000.00. All your family and guests will enjoy the
convenience and safety of this wonderful platform, as they get ready to play or
come out of the water.

ICOM
401 VHF
The ICOM 401 is an
industry leader in VHF’s. It has DSM capabilities when linked to a GPS for
instant distress calling. It has the NOAA weather channels as well. This radio
cost $179 plus the installation. The antenna was another $100. You’ll have a
good dependable radio you can count on should you ever need it. Plus it’s
great for finding your friends out on the water.
Apelco
365 Sonar
Very high quality,
dependable Raytheon electronics with the speed and Temperature option. It is a
very wonderful sonar/fish finder unit. We have a spare transducer pack and power
unit that comes with the boat. If you want to fish, it sure will find them.
It’s also an important safety tool helping you stay off the bottom and
locate your position on charts.
Blaupunkt
AM/FM Cassette and Satellite Radio Option
Great sound system. There
is a satellite radio you can hook up to it. The antenna otherwise will need
replaced. We just played cassettes when we did play music. We will throw in the
XM unit for free. You will need to get an antenna for it.
Water
Toy’s Galore
We are including a good
set of skis. They are perfect for beginners and guests. They are not
competition models – if you are at that level, this will keep your guests away
from your boards. Also included is a great ski rope for those people who prefer
to play standing up. I love the workout skiing gives me. Tubing is fun too.
We’ll include a great tube and towrope. The tube is a Warp Speed 56 inch
tube. Perfect for any adult or several kids. Finally there is the Silver
Bullet. I’ll really miss this one. Our funnest memories on this boat
usually include the Bullet. It uses the tube towrope and can handle several
adults or kids. There is also a 12v inflator for the air filled toys.
That way you can blow them up when you want to and hide them when you don’t.
Everything you need for on the water fun is included. These toys are worth over
$547. I’m not including our ski/tubing vests. There are wonderful new designs
that are more secure and have strategic padding to lessen impacts. The ones I
was using on the Cobalt were old and a bit stained. I land filled them and
planned to get new ones in 05.
The flares are expired so
you will need new ones. The fire extinguisher is fresh and ready. Also included
are 6 PFD’s. There is a nice Danforth anchor and sufficient rode. Also
included are three good-sized fenders and dock lines.
We hope that whoever buys this boat will enjoy it as much as we did, and use it as it was meant to be used. We're asking $9,799, but for the right buyer, may be able to work with you a bit. This boat deserves a family that will use her as she was meant to be used. I hope that's you!
Warmly,
Larry Harmon
